Dear Long Beach City College Colleagues:
As most of you know, the college is undergoing its comprehensive self study for reaffirmation of its accreditation. At this time we are releasing a first draft of the self study report. While reviewing the draft, please focus your attention on the content of the report. We acknowledge that numerous edits (grammatical and technical) will be required before the final document is ready for submission to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). We are sending this early draft to the college community in order to allow sufficient time for your input and feedback.
The draft can be accessed at http://accreditation.lbcc.edu/1st_draft.cfm . To assist you in your review, please read "Guidelines for Reviewing Self-Study Report" (see below and attached). You may also use the attached template to provide your feedback. Please send your input to accreditation08@lbcc.edu no later than April 1st, 2008.
Town Hall meetings, at which you may also provide your feedback, have been scheduled for both the LAC and PCC campuses during the day and at night (see attached schedule). A light lunch/ refreshments will be served. In addition, coupons to Java City will be given to all attendees, courtesy of the LBCC Auxiliary. You are strongly encouraged to attend these open meetings. Classified staff is to be granted release time to attend.
Thank you for your participation in this college-wide effort!

Guidelines for Reviewing the Self-Study
1. Start by reading the standard – what is it asking? Do the Description, Evaluation and Planning Agenda sections answer or respond to the standard?
2. It is critical to think in terms of the college as a whole vs. the perspective of any particular group. Context and change over time are also vitally important.
3. Is there evidence (reports, our documented practices, our in-depth conversations about the college related to the standards) to support a statement? Is any key evidence missing?
4. Are there any major initiatives/ events/ plans, etc. missing? If so, please provide evidence.
Key concepts
· What the standard is about (focus on our mission and on our practices to improve on how we perform on it)
· Accuracy
· "Proportioned" analysis from a college perspective (vs. special interest or group)
· Substantiated claims
· Sufficient information and sources (appropriate level of detail)
· The occasions in which the college has engaged in substantive dialogue about some related aspect of the standard
