Vice President Chris Villa is pleased to welcome Irene Pearl and Lillian Justice to the Long Beach City College family.
Please enjoy a little introduction of our new colleagues:
Irene Pearl, Registrar

What is your career/education background?
I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcasting from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY many years ago. I received a Master in Education Degree – Leadership – from Northern AZ University. I’ve worked in education for 21 years in the Maricopa County Community College district in Arizona– 10 years as registrar at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. I started as a temporary employee at Mesa Community College and worked my way up to registrar. Prior to my career in education, I was a manager in retail.
What do you hope to accomplish at LBCC?
I believe every employee at the college is responsible for creating and maintaining an environment that is learning centered.
The first thing on my agenda as the registrar is to learn the policies of LBCC and the statutes of CA as they relate to education and A&R; and the freeway systems of CA!
We have a terrific staff in A&R and I want to build on their strengths and successes to improve the services we provide.
Do you have any hobbies/interests?
I love music – all types although my favorite is classic rock. I love to quilt, crochet, and play golf. I love to watch football – favorite teams are the Packers and Colts. I also love to watch baseball and LaCrosse. I volunteer with an organization called HeadHuggers – we make hats for folks with no hair, usually women that have lost their hair due the effects of chemotherapy. I also make quilt tops for Quilts of Valor – we donate the lap quilts to various veteran’s organizations for wounded soldiers. I also make helmet liners, scarves, and neck coolers for our soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. Temperatures there fall below zero in the winter, and can reach 120+ degrees in the summer.
Lillian Justice, Associate Registrar

What is your career/education background?
I have an AA in Humanities/Social Science. I have worked in the community college system for twelve years. I have always been a part of the Student Support staff. I have worked in the Admissions and Records, Financial Aid, Tutoring, and Career and Transfer Offices. The bulk of my time was spent in A&R. Holding various positions within Student Support has helped me appreciate the importance of how Admissions & Records is to the overall student experience. We are the front line usually the first and last people that a student will encounter.
What do you hope to accomplish at LBCC?
What I hope to accomplish in my tenure here at LBCC is to change the overall perception of Admissions & Records, streamline some process in order to assist our students more efficiently. Also to help others realize that even though we are not in classroom we too teach valuable skills to our students. In order for students to succeed they must have a working knowledge of admissions procedures and know their responsibilities. I hope to bring us to a place where we all understand and appreciate that we are all here to provide service to our students and that we should be working hand and hand to achieve this.
Do you have any hobbies/interests?
Being with family/friends, drawing, “Wii-ing”, reading, etc.
Welcome to LBCC, Irene and Lillian!
