PCC's CDC Child's Art Work Featured at City Hall

CDC-PCC will have a piece of children’s art work featured at City Hall to celebrate the Week of the Young Child!

Please join us for the Long Beach Week of the Young Child Art Exhibit and Proclamation:

In 2003, the City of Long Beach demonstrated its commitment to the well-being of its children and their families with the creation of Preparing Long Beach Children for the Future: A Community Plan for Shaping the Early Care and Education System (2003-2008).

Aligned with the Community Plan, the Long Beach Early Childhood Education Committee and Los Angeles Universal Preschool, under the direction of Tracy Colunga, Child Care Coordinator, are hosting the Long Beach Week of the Young Child Art Exhibit in the City Hall Foyer, 333 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The artwork created by young children will showcase their expressions of how diverse communities come together.  Children’s Home Society of California will provide child care resources and referral information during the exhibit.   In addition, Los Angeles Universal Preschool will provide refreshments and information on the Child Care Center and Family Child Care Tours taking place during the week.

The art exhibit will be followed by a City Council Proclamation sponsored by Councilmember Suja Lowenthal recognizing April 13 –19, 2008 as Week of the Young Child.  Sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the Week of the Young Child is an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country – including child care and Head Start programs, preschools, and elementary schools – to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children.

“Week of the Young Child allows us to focus our attention on the youngest members of our community.   Also, it gives us a chance to stand up and make sure each child in the City of Long Beach grows up healthy, safe and educated,” says Luanne Mauro-Atkinson, Chair of the Long Beach Early Childhood Education Committee and Assistant Director of Long Beach Unified School District Head Start.
