In our campus preparations for a natural disaster or major emergency, LBCC will be hosting the Long Beach Fire Department Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course. The CERT mission is simple: "Do the greatest good for the greatest number of people" when a major disaster strikes our community. CERT's are formed by members of a neighborhood or workplaces who want to be better prepared for the hazards that threaten their communities.
Long Beach CERT provides the necessary training required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to our fellow citizens. When a major disaster does strike, you will have the skills & knowledge to assist neighbors, co-workers, and professional rescue personnel. Your leadership and care will help those around you after a major disaster until professional emergency services arrive.
The training consists of six three-hour sessions beginning Sept 2, 2008. All Employees are invited to enroll and attend. All Managers and Supervisors are encouraged to provide release time for employees who wish to attend. On-site training will take on the LAC campus in Building I. Two sessions must be completed at the LB Fire Academy on Argonne Avenue in Long Beach. Carpool transportation for these sessions will be arranged at the Sept. 2, meeting. If you would like to enroll in the CERT class, contact Brendan Hayes, Manager of Environmental, Health, and Safety Services at Extension 4797, or the Risk Services Office at Extension 4034.
