Long Beach, CA – The Child Development Center, a day care facility, at Long Beach City College announces sponsorship of the Child Care Food Program. This program will allow all children who are eligible to receive nutritious food at no extra cost.
The Child Development Center is a child care facility designed for children between the ages of two through five whose parents are students, staff, faculty, or community members. “Now, with the sponsorship of the Child Care Food Program parents can benefit not only from high quality child care but also from healthy meals,” said Charline Lang, Coordinator of the Child Development at Long Beach City College.
The Child Care Food program, also known as The Child Care and Adult Food Program is part of the Federal Food Programs which exist to provide food to children and adults that qualify.
Founded in 1968 The Child Care Food program’s main mission is to supply the funds for healthy meals for low-income families in child care facilities, after school programs and shelters at no extra cost. The program is federally funded providing reimbursements for the cost of the food, training in child care nutrition and onsite assistance to meet the high requirements.
The Child Care Food Program provided over 1.5 million meals daily for children at child care centers in 2004*. This year Long Beach City College will be added to the 44,000 child care centers nationwide which participated in CACFP in 2004**.
Located on the Pacific Coast Campus the Long Beach City College Child Development Center is open during the fall and spring semesters from 7 a.m. 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The Long Beach City College District consists of two campuses with an enrollment of over 30,000 students each year. The education program’s primary purpose is to prepare students for transfer to baccalaureate-granting institutions, entry into work or career development and to support business in economic development. Long Beach City College serves the cities of Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill and Avalon.
